Marais District

We can't believe it we have 3 days left on our holiday. Where did the time go? The weather this morning was cloudy but we could see blue sky in the distance. We talked at breakfast what we wanted to see in the next coming days-whether we get there who knows. Today we decided to take the bus to the Place de la Bastille & do a Rick Steves' walking tour of the Marais. This was where the rich lived in the 15 th century but by the 19th century it was a working class neighbourhood with a large Jewish population. We walked down toward Place des Vosges. This is Paris's oldest square. It has 36 houses surrounding a park that once hosted jousting competitions but now have children enjoying themselves on the swings. We followed the map through the narrow streets & back alleys.

Stopped at the Carnavalet Musuem which is 2 Marais mansions connected by a corridor. The museum was free so we had to go in. There isn't to many freebies in Paris. This place is a little confusing and we got lost a few times. We wondered if we would ever surface. All that traipsing made us thirsty so we had to stopped at a cafe for a Heineken & food. Have to get your priorities right.

On our way to the Pompidou Centre we found a second hand store selling clothes , shoes, boots & purses. It was full of young girls pawing through clothes & 2 old grannys standing with their mouths open. How do you say Value Village in french? Chris gave one of those young things a quick elbow check (like a good Canuck) & started grabbing for scarves. She bought 5 for 5 euros. We are on a roll a free musuem & tres cheap scarves. We didn't go into the Pompidou centre just had a look & then back home. Today is a quiet day with the time change it is getting dark earlier and by 4:30 it is time for home.

Chris and Lyn,

You have done an awesome job of your blog. I enjoyed hearing and seeing things through your eyes.

Unfortunately while on the coast at mom's I wasn't unable to reach your blog to comment. But have caught up with it all now that I am home.

It sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I bet if the weather hadn't changed to be so cold you would like to have stayed there much longer! It is so beautiful.

I do owe Lyn an appology. I had got her mixed up with Loraine Stanley who I used to paint with - very sorry Lyn. I don't believe you and I have ever met.

Well Grannies were are you planning to go next? I can hardly wait.

Thanks for the great blog of your trip.
