Day 4, Monday
Okay folks you have Lyn, Chris is sitting on her bum dictating. I just poured myself a large glass of wine & I am now hen pecking (2 finger typing). This morning Lucy our landlady who goes beyond the call of duty arrived with her brother- in-law, (yesterday was her boy friend) to try to fix Chris’s computer. Sorry still won’t work. So down the street to an internet cafĂ© were there is students reading & studying. We fit right in probably thought their grandmas were invading. Yeah finally got on our blog. Alice is the internet provider for Italy & it is very expensive. The password for any internet connection is in excess of 20 digits & letters.God help you if you screw up typing it in!
This afternoon we walk to Santa Maria Novella built between 1279 & 1357. This has the same decorative marble as the Duomo. Prayed to the internet god to take pity on us.
On to the San Lorenzo Plazza to visit the Mercato. This is a Florence’s largest indoor market. But it was closed will try another day.
San Lorenzo has a lot of stalls selling leather, scarves & jewelry. We then visited the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi this was the seat of the Medici family before they moved across the Arno River to the Pitti Palazzo. It is famous for the Medici Chapel which you usual have to book a time to visit but we were lucky there very few people. Chris & I stood by ourselves in this chapel which is a very rare occurrence. A breathtaking unique experience. Put a lot of miles on our shoes so tonight we are letting them rest. On the way home we bought a slice of gorgonzola & meat pizza & an artichoke, mozzarella & fresh tomato with basil pizza for dinner washed down with wine. We have to be up early for the Uffizi.
